Over 100 Dead, Missing in S.Korea Typhoon

SEOUL (Reuters) - A powerful typhoon that slammed into South Korea at the weekend has left far more than 100 people dead or missing, a disaster official said on Monday.
"Far more than 100 people have been killed or gone missing, but we think the number will increase as the searches for the missing or buried people are still going on," Kim Jin-young, a director at the National Disaster Prevention Headquarters told Reuters television.
"The damage to property is expected to be the largest in history," he added, without elaborating.
South Korean rescue workers were struggling on Monday against mountains of mud and swollen rivers to find missing people.
The disaster headquarters earlier said that 48 people were confirmed dead and 33 were missing.
Typhoon Rusa is the worst typhoon to hit the Korean peninsula since 1959.
